2. Qualifications and Subjects

Qualifications for Elementary Qualification Examination, Subjects to be Taken
Eligibility Exam subject
A. A person who is 11 years of age or older as of the year preceding the year in which the qualification examination is implemented and has not completed the elementary school curriculum
B. Elementary school students (including special schools) who are 11 years of age or older and whose school records are managed outside the quota in accordance with Article 29 of the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
C. A person who falls under subparagraph 1 of Article 69 of the Act on the Treatment of Protected Children, etc.

  • Elective (2 subjects): 2 subjects among morality, physical education, music, art, practical subjects, and English
middle school graduation exam
Qualifications for taking the middle school graduation qualification exam, subjects to take
Eligibility Exam subject
A.
1) Elementary school graduates and those with equivalent or higher educational background
2) Those who have passed the qualification exam for elementary school graduation
3) Those whose academic records are managed outside the quota in accordance with Article 29 of the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
4) A person who falls under subparagraph 2 of Article 69 of the Act on the Treatment of Protected Children, etc.

1) Those who have graduated or are expected to graduate from various schools equivalent to 3-year high civic schools and middle schools
2) Those who have completed the social education curriculum corresponding to the middle school curriculum in accordance with Article 7 Paragraph 1 of the Enforcement Decree of the Social Education Act before September 3, 1992

Qualifications of application for High School Graduation Qualification Examination, Test Subjects

3) Those who fall under Articles 97, 101 and 102 of the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
4) A person who falls under subparagraph 3 of Article 69 of the Act on the Treatment of Protected Children, etc.

  • Required (6 subjects): Korean, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Science, Korean History
  • Selective (1 subject): 1 subject among morality, technology/family, physical education, music, and art
B. Those who have graduated or are expected to graduate from 3-year technical high school or various high school equivalents, and those who have completed a 3-year vocational training course targeting middle school or those with equivalent or higher academic ability 【3 subjects】 Korean, Mathematics, English
C. A person who falls under the above 'B' and who has obtained the qualification of a technician or higher according to the National Technical Qualification Act after '89.11.22 【2 subjects】 Korean, Mathematics or English

Prior to 2014 (including 2014), if a successful candidate for Option II wants to reflect the score of the subject, the average of 8 subjects including the applied subject will be used to determine pass (fill in the application form in the box whether or not to reflect the previous Option II)

3. Restriction on eligibility

elementary school graduation exam

1) Those who are enrolled in elementary school (including special schools)

2) Students under the age of 11 as of the year preceding the year in which the qualification examination is implemented

3) Those who are enrolled in the school in subparagraph 1) after the announcement date and whose registration is outside the quota

4) A person who has cheated on the public notice as of the public notice date and whose eligibility limitation period has not elapsed since the disposition date

middle school graduation exam

1) A person who has graduated from a middle school or a school under Article 97, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act or is currently enrolled

2) Elementary school graduates after the announcement date

3) Those who are enrolled in the school in subparagraph 1) after the announcement date and whose registration is outside the quota

4) A person who has cheated on the public notice as of the public notice date and whose eligibility limitation period has not elapsed since the disposition date

high school graduation exam

1) Those who have graduated from high schools or schools under Article 98, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, or those who are currently enrolled (including those on leave of absence)

2) Those who have graduated from middle school or schools under Article 97, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act after the announcement date

3) A person who was expelled while attending school in subparagraph 1) and who has not passed more than 6 months since the date of expulsion as of the announcement date. However, a person with a disability registered pursuant to Article 32 of the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities Act (revised on April 11, 2007) who dropped out because it was impossible to continue their studies due to a physical or mental disability, or a person who is managed outside the quota according to the Special Education Act for the Disabled, etc. is excluded.

4) A person who has cheated on the public notice as of the public notice date and whose eligibility limitation period has not elapsed since the disposition date

4. Determination of Successful Candidates

Those who obtain an average of 60 points or more on a scale of 100 points in each subject are determined as passers-by. However, even if the average score is 60 points or higher, if there is a missing subject, it will be disqualified.
※ If a successful candidate misses even one subject (including retaken subjects), he/she will be disqualified regardless of the average.
※ Treatment of absentees: If you wished to take the course but did not take the exam (However, even if you did not write an answer at all, those who wished to take the course and took the test will be treated as test takers)

1) For subjects with a score of 60 or more on the examination, pass is recognized, and the examination of the subject is exempted in the examination after the next meeting by the Won, and the grades of the exempted subjects are added to the examination score.

2) If a student who has passed the previous subject retakes the subject, the grade of the subject retaken will determine whether or not he/she passed, regardless of the previous subject's pass grade.

5. Documents to be submitted

6. Recognition of academic background and documents to be submitted by returnees

Recognition of returnees’ academic background

1) Recognition of graduation from elementary school (take the qualification examination for middle school graduation)

go. A person who has completed a school curriculum equivalent to elementary school or more than 6 years in Korea or abroad

me. A person who has completed all of the foreign curriculum recognized by the Minister of Education as equivalent to the school curriculum equivalent to elementary school

2) Recognition of graduation from middle school (take the high school qualification examination)

  • go. Those who have completed a school curriculum equivalent to middle school or 9 years or more in Korea or abroad
  • me. A person who has completed all of the foreign curriculum recognized by the Minister of Education as equivalent to the school curriculum corresponding to middle school

Documents to be submitted for recognition of academic background

1) In case of completion of school curriculum for 6 or 9 years or more in Korea or abroad

go. Certificate of expulsion from the last school in Korea (graduation, expulsion, management outside the quota)

me. Original certificate of attendance at the foreign school for all grades or transcripts for the previous semester

2) In case of being recognized as having the same academic background as those who graduated from elementary or middle school

go. Original certificate of completion (graduation) showing the school level

me. Certificate of completion of 6th grade (or 9th grade) or higher

All. Certificate of enrollment in 7th grade (or 10th grade)

3) Documents issued in foreign countries under subparagraphs 1) and 2)

go. The date of admission and expulsion, the grade in which the student is enrolled, and the principal's seal or signature must be attached.

me. The identity of the person subject to issuance (name, date of birth, gender, etc.) must be accurately verifiable

All. Only for schools with foreign academic qualifications listed on the website of the Ministry of Education (Policy>Elementary/Middle/High School Education>Curriculum), the documents issued by the principal are replaced.
※ However, if the school does not have a homepage, submit it through Apostille or consulate notarization as before (Attach a certificate of transit or Apostille confirmation)

la. According to the procedure above, the authenticity of the documents of those who have passed the qualification exam will be checked, and if the academic record documents in the country of residence are forged or altered, the applicant's acceptance to the qualification exam will be canceled.

Returnees from countries that are signatories to the Apostille Convention can obtain the original copy of the Apostille confirmation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country concerned (studying abroad) or at a diplomatic mission (Korean embassy or consulate in the country) in accordance with Article 30 of the Overseas Diplomatic Notary Service Act. Submit the original copy of the issued transit certificate (※Status of countries that have signed up to the Apostille Convention: USA, UK, France, Germany, Japan, etc.)

bar. Returnees from countries that have not signed up for Apostille must submit an original copy of the transit certificate issued by a diplomatic mission abroad (Korean embassy or consulate in the country) in accordance with Article 30 of the Overseas Diplomatic Notary Act etc)

4) All documents in English and other foreign languages must be translated into Korean and notarized.
